There were originally 13 early rules to the game of basketball. Today there seems to be 100 different rules. There are still a few rules from back then that stand today. When Naismith first invented the rules there was traveling and that is still a rule. It also states that the in bounder had 5 seconds to get the ball in bounds before the other team got the ball back. However, one major difference was If a team committed 3 straight fouls that would count as points for the other team. This is obviously not in the current rules. Another major difference was that if a player fouled 2 times he would be disqualified until the other team scored a point. Today you can foul up to 5 times in a college game before you are completely disqualified for the game. Not only were the rules different, but the court was a little bit different as well. There was not a 3 point line, so every basket besides a free throw counted as 2 points. Nowadays the 3 is a huge part of our game because it can get teams back in the game as well as change momentum. Also, back then there was no shot clock so teams could hold the ball for as long as they wanted before they attempted a shot. In the early years the scores of the games were very low scoring because teams would pass the ball around for long periods of time. A huge change was made in1954 when Danny Biasone invented the shot clock. It would change the game forever.
